I have had a super hard time reading this and not saying, "But what about COERCION?!?!?!"

I mean, seriously, who would *not* view coercion, which is nothing more than an act committed upon threat of some prescribed [unpleasant] consequence, as a mitigating circumstance?? And then I remind myself... Coerced individuals do still have a choice. They can still choose not to comply. It's a crappy choice, really. But that doesn't change the fact that it *is* a choice.

This whole train of thought leads me to question whether or not a "threat of violence" is an acceptable excuse at all. But, what would I do were I in a situation like that? What if it was the lives of my children being threatened? Difficult questions to answer.

If we, however, generalize this to saying that one does not need to learn facts in school (be it homeschool, public or private), but rather that one only needs to learn how to learn, we are potentially on a perilous path.

One could argue that one does need to learn foreign languages, for Google has a translating service. My English writing would be pretty crappy if it were simply Google-translated from Norwegian.

One could argue that learning math is bunk, for we have calculators and computer programs for doing math. Being totally dependent on calculators etc. is hardly a good thing. When are we going to notice that there is something fishy about what the calculator tells us, if we rely on it to tell us so?

Moreover, if you are caught in a crowd in Rio de Janeiro, neither Google's translating service, the Internet, nor knowing how to learn how to speak Portuguese will do you much good. You need to know how to speak Portuguese.

That is not only a hilarious concept but also one of the most logical you can think of. It really comes down to the simple fact that these celebs want the exposure. 'Out of sight out of mind' is the Celeb Mantra. The Papaz will always be in business. I think it's insane to pass legislation against Papaz because it is essentially unenforceable. Can you imagine a scenario where a tourist snaps a pic of Bruce Willis and being arrested or sued. Like our prisons aren't flooded enough with silly drug laws and ludicrous lawsuits - we now have this. I say do it! L.A. is a cess pool and private roads may inspire a much needed clean up of the area.

it's a good idea the problem with the cola companies is they are in no way interested in efeciency. i rarely drink coke but i was at the store the other day here in Budapest Hungary to get a sprite & the 1/5 liter bottle cost me 200 ft the 1 liter was 235 ft & the 2 liter was 260 ft... so you would be an idiot not to get the 2 liter. the way i figure is the more coke they can get you to drink the fatter you get & the more addicted to the product you will get thus in the long run return higher sales. anyway i like your site you seem like a cool guy. check us out at www.newbottleradicals.com

I think in the future there will be no carts at all. You will simply order what you want through the computer internet accessible unit installed in your kitchen or this will be down automatically, although perhaps partially so, and items will either be delivered or readied for pick up at the grocery at designated times.

So true. I've never had anything personally against atheists, and I generally feel I'm quite open to hear their opinions about religion, but generally speaking atheists are quite hostile to any other interpretation of theology or the metaphysics than any Christian, Jew, or Muslim.
